The tunisian-born artist and activist comes back with Tawa Remixes EP. M.E.S.H, Karen Gwyer, Basile3 and Clip rework the track from her album Khonnar released on Infiné.
Khonnar, released in 2018, was a singular blend of ambient, bass, techno, and Arabic influences and chants. The album was a manifesto for a generation that does not seek to please or to conform, in between two continents, shifting the epicenter of contemporary electronic music. Deena Abdelwahed tackled the codes of so-called “eastern techno” relying on sounds that are familiar to westerners as “exotic” or “oriental”.
It is now turned over to M.E.S.H., already known for his deconstructions of club tropes, to flip “Tawa”, adding his propulsive, frenetic avant-garde bass music-inspired beats. The American producer, based in Berlin, will share the stage with Deena on January 31st at La Gaité Lyrique in Paris.
British producer Karen Gwyer, who will be playing with Deena at ReTextured Festival in London in March, Parisian newcomer Basile3 and Spanish artist Clip (who also co-produced Khonnar) take care of the other remixes.
Tawa Remixes will be out on February 22nd on Infiné. Pre-order it on Bandcamp.
Deena Abdelwahed and M.E.S.H will be playing in Paris at la Gaité Lyrique on january 31st.
